DESCRITIVO:
A análise da cor de uma cidade é sempre um trabalho dialéctico entre ciência e arte, raciocínio lógico e conhecimento sensível, explorando os conceitos de luz (ciência da luz) e cor (arte da cor), no espaço físico da cidade. A cada diferente realidade corresponde um modo diferente de aplicar a cor à paisagem construída. No entanto, é também certo que numa realidade específica coexistem hábitos e critérios de uso contraditórios. Não obstante esta complexidade, é possível, utilizando métodos de investigação, traçar elementos recorrentes e acumular dados de confronto que coloquem em directa e estreita correspondência os significados dos lugares com a cor e os modos de a utilizar.
Adoptando a metodologia de Jean-Philippe Lenclos, segundo o qual todos os lugares possuem cores permanentes e cores não permanentes, foi realizado um estudo das cores permanentes fornecidas por elementos estáveis com um carácter visual durável, portanto, susceptíveis de levantamento, ou registo, tais como: os materiais de construção, a pedra, as cerâmicas do lugar, mas também os minerais dos solos que serviram de pigmentos até ontem. As cores não permanentes são as que dependem de factores variáveis, como a infinita mudança da luz e do clima, a vegetação ao longo do ano, a luz do céu ou dos rios. O tempo introduz uma variabilidade natural, já que o envelhecimento e a contínua renovação dos materiais, das pinturas, modificam progressivamente as paletas. Este projecto incidiu sobre a análise da cor da cidade do Porto (Bairro da Ribeira/Barredo; Bairro da Sé; Alameda das Virtudes; R. do Almada; Rua da Fábrica; Largo dos Lóios; Rua Álvares Cabral; Avenida da Boavista).
To analyse the colour of a town always involves a dialectic work between science and art, logic reasoning and sensitive knowledge, exploring the concepts of light (science of light) and colour (art of colour), in the physical space of a town. To each different reality corresponds a different way of applying the colour to the landscape that was built. However, it is also true that, in each specific reality, we find contradictory habits and criteria for use that nevertheless coexist. Despite all this complexity, it is possible, through the use of research methods, to find recurrent elements and to accumulate confronting data that put the meanings of the places in direct and close correspondence with the colour and the ways to use it.
Adopting Jean-Philippe Lenclos methodology, according to which all the places have permanent and non-permanent colours, a study has been conducted on the permanent colours provided by stable elements with a visual durable character, thereby susceptible of surveying or register, such as: the construction materials, the stone, the local ceramics, but also the minerals from the soils that served as pigment until yesterday. The non-permanent colours are those that depend on variable factors, like the infinite change in light and climate, the vegetation throughout the year, the light of the skies or of the rivers. Time introduces a natural variability, since the ageing and the continuous renovation of the materials, the paintings, modify the palettes progressively. This project focused on the analysis of the colour in Porto (Bairro da Ribeira/Barredo; Bairro da Sé; Alameda das Virtudes; R. do Almada; Rua da Fábrica; Largo dos Lóios; Rua Álvares Cabral; Avenida da Boavista).
